FAILED_OUT_OF_ENERGY: why your USDT transfer failed
OUT_OF_ENERGY means the transfer needed more energy than the sender had, and the fee limit or the TRX balance could not pay for the rest, so the network stopped it and kept the TRX already burned. The USDT did not move.
Check the sending address below: if its energy is under what the transfer needs, rent the missing amount to that address and send again within the rental hour.
The four usual causes
| Cause | How to tell | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No energy and too little TRX | Energy 0, a few TRX on the address | Rent 65,000 energy, or keep enough TRX to burn |
| The receiver holds no USDT | The transfer needed 131,000, not 65,000 | Rent 131,000 for a transfer to an address with a zero USDT balance |
| The rental ended | Energy was rented more than an hour ago | Rent again right before sending |
| Energy went to another address | The sender shows no delegated energy | Rent to the address that sends, not the one that receives |
TRON network rules as of 2026-10-01.
Where the TRX went
TRON charges for the work a transaction does even when it fails. The wallet sets a fee limit: the most TRX it may burn for energy. When the energy runs out and the fee limit is reached first, the transaction stops with OUT_OF_ENERGY and the TRX burned up to that point is not returned.
How much energy to rent
65,000 for a USDT transfer to an address that already holds USDT, 131,000 to one that holds none. Rent it to the sending address; it covers transfers for one hour.
FAQ
Did my USDT leave the wallet?
No. A failed transaction changes no balances except the TRX burned for fees.
Why did it fail when I had energy?
It was less than the transfer needed, most often 65,000 against the 131,000 a transfer to a zero USDT balance takes, or the rental had ended.
Can I get the burned TRX back?
No. The network burns it for the work done; no one holds it to return.
