Send USDT without TRX
You can send USDT without TRX using rented energy, GasFree (1.5 USDT), Binance Wallet, or Trust Wallet (3.11–4.55 USDT). Rates, mechanics and how to do it.
Published · Updated
Sending USDT on the TRON network (TRC-20) normally requires burning TRX when your account does not hold energy: ≈ 6.43 TRX when sending to an address that already holds USDT, and ≈ 13.03 TRX when sending to an address with zero USDT balance. If your wallet holds zero TRX, a standard transfer cannot be completed.
However, you can send USDT without holding TRX through four working methods: renting energy beforehand to your address, using a wallet with the TRON GasFree protocol (1.5 USDT per transfer[2]), using Binance Wallet (free until 2026-12-22, then 1 USDT per transfer[3]), or using Trust Wallet’s built-in feature (3.11–4.55 USDT[4]).

Each transfer is one 1-hour order at 25.34 SUN per energy; an order total rounds up to 1,000 SUN, as quotes do. Day average = the day's windows weighted by length. Burn: 100 SUN per energy (getEnergyFee). Schedule from the published grid.
Comparison of methods to send USDT without TRX
Each method provides the network resources (energy and bandwidth) differently and charges its fee through different rails:
| Method | How the fee is paid | Fee per transfer | Supported wallets | Resource provider |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Renting energy beforehand | Paid when ordering rental | Rental rate (0 TRX burned) | Any TRON wallet | Delegated to address on chain |
| TRON GasFree protocol | Deducted in USDT | 1.5 USDT per transfer[2] (+ 1.5 USDT once[2] first time) | TronLink, Klever, Guarda, NOW Wallet (each sets its own fee) | Relayer via GasFree controller[2] |
| Binance Wallet | Deducted in USDT | free until 2026-12-22, then 1 USDT per transfer[3] | Binance Web3 Wallet | Provider not disclosed |
| Trust Wallet (Tronify) | Deducted in USDT | 3.11–4.55 USDT[4] | Trust Wallet | Tronify delegates energy + 0.80 TRX[4] |
| Standard TRX burn (baseline) | Burns TRX on balance | ≈ 6.43 TRX or ≈ 13.03 TRX | All wallets | Network burns user’s TRX |
Method 1: Renting energy directly (any wallet)
The most versatile way to transfer USDT without burning TRX is renting energy to your address before initiating the transaction:
- How it works: A provider delegates energy to your TRON address on chain. When you initiate the USDT transfer from your wallet, the network consumes the delegated energy instead of burning TRX.
- Bandwidth coverage: Every active TRON account receives 600 a day[1] free bandwidth daily. A standard USDT transfer consumes about ≈ 345[5] bandwidth, meaning the first transfer of the day generally incurs no bandwidth charge. If free bandwidth is exhausted, a transfer consumes ≈ 0.35 TRX.
- Steps to execute:
-
Check whether the destination address already holds USDT using our address checker to know if you need 64,285[5] or 130,285[5] energy.
-
Order energy for your sender address. The rental is paid in TRX, from one of two places:
- another TRON wallet you control: connect it on buy energy and enter your sender address as the receiver;
- TRX on an exchange: top up your account balance in the dashboard by withdrawing TRX to the top-up address shown there, then order energy for your sender address from the balance.
Never withdraw TRX from an exchange straight to the rental payment address: energy paid by a plain TRX transfer goes to the address that paid, which would be the exchange’s wallet, not yours.
-
Once the energy delegation is confirmed on chain, submit the transfer from your wallet.
-
Note: We have not tested how every wallet app behaves when an address holds energy but zero TRX. Some wallet apps may still ask for a TRX balance before sending; keeping 1–2 TRX on the address may help.

Method 2: TRON GasFree protocol
TRON launched the GasFree protocol to enable gasless transfers directly within compatible non-custodial wallets:
- On-chain mechanics: The protocol operates through a proxy controller contract (
TFFAMQLZybALaLb4uxHA9RBE7pxhUAjF3U[2]). Each user has a counterfactual GasFree address holding their USDT. The user signs a TIP-712 permit off-chain, and an automated relayer submits thepermitTransfertransaction on chain. - Fees measured: In our sample of 50 calls on Tronscan[2] (2026-10-01), 44 calls paid 1.5 USDT per transfer[2], while 6 calls paid 3.0 USDT: the fee plus 1.5 USDT once[2] to activate a new GasFree account.
- Supported wallets: TronLink, Klever, Guarda and NOW Wallet. Each wallet sets its own fee, so the 1.5 USDT above is what the sampled calls paid, not a protocol price.
Method 3: Wallet-specific relayer integrations
Certain wallets integrate third-party relayers to allow paying fees directly in USDT from the send screen:
- Binance Wallet: Under a promotion backed by TRON DAO, until 2026-12-22, Binance Wallet charges no gas on USDT transfers on TRON[3], transitioning to free until 2026-12-22, then 1 USDT per transfer[3] after the promotion ends.
- Trust Wallet: Trust Wallet integrates with Tronify to allow transfers when holding zero TRX. The user signs two transactions simultaneously: the main USDT transfer and a fee transfer of 3.11–4.55 USDT[4] to Tronify’s collector. In addition, Tronify sends 0.80 TRX[4] to cover bandwidth. For details on how this feature works, see our guide on Trust Wallet TRC20 fee.
Troubleshooting: What happens if a transfer fails?
If you try to transfer USDT without TRX and without any of the above mechanisms in place:
- A wallet may show an insufficient-balance message and refuse to broadcast the transaction.
- If a transaction is submitted to the network with insufficient energy and insufficient TRX to burn, it can fail on chain with an OUT_OF_ENERGY error.
- When using third-party wallet relayer options, ensure your USDT balance is large enough to cover the transfer amount plus the deducted fee, otherwise the service cannot execute the send.
For recurring payments or automated systems, our API allows services to delegate energy programmatically before each transaction. To understand the underlying network cost structure, read our guide on USDT TRC-20 fee.

FAQ
Can you send USDT TRC-20 with zero TRX in your wallet?
Yes. TRON requires energy and bandwidth for every transfer. When you have no TRX, you can send USDT if energy is delegated to your address beforehand (rental), or if your wallet supports paying the fee directly in USDT via protocols like GasFree or built-in relayer features in Binance Wallet and Trust Wallet.
Which wallets support sending USDT without TRX?
Wallets supporting the TRON GasFree protocol include TronLink, Klever, Guarda, and NOW Wallet. In addition, Binance Web3 Wallet and Trust Wallet have built-in options to deduct transfer fees in USDT. With independent energy rental, any non-custodial TRON wallet can send USDT without burning TRX.
What is the cheapest way to send USDT without TRX?
Until 2026-12-22 Binance Wallet's promotion makes these transfers free. Otherwise renting energy usually costs less than wallet fees paid in USDT: GasFree took 1.5 USDT per transfer in our sample of its controller (plus 1.5 USDT once to activate; each wallet sets its own fee), Binance Wallet 1 USDT after the promotion, and Trust Wallet took 3.11–4.55 USDT in our tests. The calculator on this page shows today's rental price.
How does the TRON GasFree protocol work?
GasFree uses a smart contract controller where users sign a permit message off-chain. A relayer submits the transaction on-chain, paying the energy and bandwidth, and deducts the fee in USDT directly from the user's GasFree balance.
What happens if a wallet has neither TRX nor energy?
The transfer cannot proceed; a wallet may refuse to broadcast it. If submitted to the network without enough energy or TRX to burn, the transaction can fail on chain with an OUT_OF_ENERGY error.
