USDT TRC-20 fee

A USDT TRC-20 transfer burns about 6.43 TRX, or 13.03 TRX to an empty address, without energy. Why the TRON fee doubles and how renting energy cuts it.

Published · Updated

There is no fixed USDT TRC-20 fee: transfers on TRON consume energy, and when the sender does not hold enough, the network burns TRX instead. Without energy, a transfer burns ≈ 6.43 TRX when the recipient already holds USDT, and ≈ 13.03 TRX when their USDT balance is zero.

Renting energy for a transfer costs a fraction of burning raw TRX. The calculator below compares live rental rates directly against TRX burn costs for your transaction volume.

Each transfer is one 1-hour order at 25.34 SUN per energy; an order total rounds up to 1,000 SUN, as quotes do. Day average = the day's windows weighted by length. Burn: 100 SUN per energy (getEnergyFee). Schedule from the published grid.

TRON gas fee for a USDT transfer

Transfer scenarioEnergy requiredTRX burned without energy
To an address holding USDT64,285[2]≈ 6.43 TRX
To an address with zero USDT balance130,285[2]≈ 13.03 TRX
Bandwidth (both scenarios)≈ 345[2]0 while free 600 a day[1] remains, then ≈ 0.35 TRX

Burning energy costs 100 SUN[1] per unit (chain parameter getEnergyFee[1]), so the formula is: energy × 100 SUN (1 TRX = 1,000,000 SUN).

The actual fee depends on the recipient’s USDT balance at the exact moment of transfer. An address that previously held USDT but currently has a zero balance requires ~130,000 energy again.

Fee components: energy and bandwidth

Every TRC-20 transfer requires two resources:

  • Energy: Powers smart contract execution for USDT. It accounts for the vast majority of the network fee.
  • Bandwidth: Covers transaction data size. Every active account receives 600 a day[1] for free, and a standard USDT transfer uses ~345 bandwidth, meaning one daily transfer typically incurs no bandwidth cost.

If an address holds neither energy nor TRX to burn, the transfer cannot complete; on chain it can fail with an OUT_OF_ENERGY error.

Why wallets and exchanges quote different prices

Some non-custodial wallets and exchanges charge fees directly in USDT and settle on-chain gas themselves. Measured and official rates include:

OptionFee per transfer
GasFree wallets (TronLink, Klever, Guarda and others; each wallet sets its own fee)1.5 USDT per transfer[3] in 44 of 50 sampled calls, plus 1.5 USDT once[3] to activate
Trust Wallet, built-in fee in USDT3.11–4.55 USDT[4] across our test transfers
Binance Walletfree until 2026-12-22, then 1 USDT per transfer[5]
Exchange withdrawalFixed exchange fee, independent of on-chain gas costs

These options are convenient when a wallet holds no TRX, but they typically cost much more than rented energy.

How to reduce USDT transfer fees

  1. Rent energy before sending. Energy is delegated to your sender address, the transfer burns zero TRX, and you pay only the low rental fee. You can buy energy without an account.
  2. Check the recipient’s balance first. If the destination wallet has zero USDT, the transfer requires twice as much energy. The address checker displays the exact energy needed in advance.
  3. Keep a small amount of TRX to cover bandwidth if your free daily allowance is exhausted (≈ 0.35 TRX per transfer).

Platforms processing high-volume daily transfers can integrate our API to automatically delegate energy before each payout.

FAQ

How much is the USDT TRC-20 fee right now?

Without energy, the network burns approximately 6.43 TRX when the recipient already holds USDT, and 13.03 TRX when their USDT balance is zero (based on the 100 SUN energy burn rate as of 2026-10-02). With rented energy, the same transfer costs significantly less; the calculator on this page shows real-time pricing.

Why is the TRC-20 fee so high sometimes?

Transferring to an address with a zero USDT balance requires ~130,000 energy instead of ~64,000 (mainnet transfers, 2026-09-30). The network fee depends strictly on the recipient's balance at the exact moment of transfer.

Can I send USDT TRC-20 without paying TRX?

TRON transfers always consume energy and bandwidth. You can avoid spending TRX if energy is delegated to your wallet beforehand (rental), or if your wallet settles network fees in USDT (such as GasFree, or the built-in gasless options in Trust Wallet and Binance Wallet). The 600 free daily bandwidth allowance typically covers about one transfer per day.

Why does my exchange charge a different withdrawal fee?

An exchange sets its own withdrawal fee; it is not the on-chain burn described on this page.
